Maldives Trip Report

I went to the Maldives on my honeymoon in early Sept, 2016. Stayed a Lohi's Left / Hudhuranfushi. Solid Left break, but I like rights. 2 boat trips daily, usually to a right. Was a reasonable price for the two of use with daily buffets and all the booze you can drink. Good Snorkeling. Splurged on 4 nights of an over the water hut, which was definately worth it for 4 nights...after that would've gotten a bit old. BUT, we booked this when we were on the island as a $100night upgrade, instead of $600/night online when we booked the trip.

Anyways, after the first time there, had to go back. Went on a boys boat trip this past Labor day. The SURFLINE forecast was for 1-2' - total BS.
Last year def had more size and consistency, but there was never a day that wasn't fun surf.

Always wanted to do a boat trip. Indo/Ments are a dream, but its like 3 days of travel EACH WAY to get on the boat and back...didn't have the vvacation time. With the maldives, your on the boat like an hour after landing in Male. We flew Emirates - no board bag fees, comfy plane, and short layover in Dubai.

We stayed on the Blue Star Surf Charter. Lowest priced boat in the Maldives, but being on the nicest/most expensive boat does not make the waves any better. So 8 nights at like $125/night including meals seemed pretty solid. Boat shows it's age...rooms are small, bathrooms smaller, but the food was decent and the crew was solid. They had a dingy to take you to the breaks. Typically the boats part in the channel and theres a left and right on each side of the channel. We only surfed a few different breaks over 8 days, but it never got old.

There are crowds - no doubt about that, but you can score waves even with the crowds. It was consistent chest-head, with a couple OH days. They're pretty easy waves. It was PUMPING the week before, and I think the crowds would've been lighter since people get surfed out much quicker.

I hope these pics work. They're all from "Colas" or "Cokes" - a very fun right hander.
The last pic is one from last year that my wife took from the boat...guy was apparently "semi-pro" but I forget his name.

So, with that said, i would go back in a heartbeat. Its a commitment that is difficult to make...if anyone would ever want to go, shoot me a PM or send me an email joshalthouse@gmail.com

The boat we were on also does the Southern Atolls March - Mayish, which the captain promises uncrowded waves as there are no resorts and very few boats make the trek. Theres a few open spots for a trip on march where they leave Male (main airport) and sail south, surfing break after break on their way south for 300KM, then guest catch a sea plane back to Male...dream trip. 4 open spots, and the rest of the group is from San Deigo

www.tinypic.com seems to work pretty well in Chrome. You create an account, upload pics, and it has a "link" for each picture that you can just past into this message board and the picture will show up. I would have thought Google Pics would as well, but I've never used it. I also would love to see your pics of the Maldives
